1ST YEAR BACHILLERATO

By Alberto Valbuena

I have chosen this video, with this real situation, to be watched, analyzed and commented by the students in class:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBasZWjd92k

In my opinion, by working this video we can kill several birds with one shot.

First of all, biologically or anatomically (perhaps this activity is better for the subject Applied Anatomy in “1st Bachillerato”), we can see the effect of dehydration in muscles, and see the real necessity of drinking water during a strong sportive effort. Second, we can see a real example of courage, determination, perseverance in achieving a goal, which is very inspiring for pupils even in their own field, the studies. And third, Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games were the first time that women could participate in the Marathon, which gives them an idea of how male chauvinist the world is…

The idea is that students watch the video in class, where the own protagonist explains the situation, and later, the students have to explain, in their own words, every question included in LOTS (What, When, Where, Which) and in HOTS (Why and How). Their explanations will be orally and we could establish also a debate.
