4th year ESO: BIOLOGY and GEOLOGY

EVOLUTION

By Sussane Gerwig:

The cross curricular activity I would suggest is related to EVOLUTION.

Evolution is considered as a scientific fact that explains almost everything in
Biology, although they are still unanswered questions.
But even, nowadays, there are reluctant people about evolution as they believe in creationism.

Evolution links Natural Science, History, Religion and Philosophy (or Ethical Values) together.

With the information given in the “BIG PICTURE ON EVOLUTION” document (attached) students can deepen their knowledge on evolution with the Social Science (Social impact, pages 10 and 11), Religion and Philosophy teachers (Real voices and Evidence and belief, pages 12, 13, 14 and 15) focusing on these specific topics developed on the “BIG PICTURE….”.

My suggestion is that my colleagues could use one period of class on each of these subjects, while at the same time, in Biology class (4ÂșESO), we will study the unit about evolution.

CARBON  FOOTPRINT

  By Sussane Gerwig:

During this summer I was granted with the Nile course in Norwich. (I enjoyed it very much.)

The last days we were asked for a final activity: YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT PROJECT.

We received a sheet of paper with the instructions and steps we had to follow. (I send them to you attached). My group was formed by 3 technology teachers and me. The final PPT was quickly done by my computer geek colleagues, what really impressed me. (PPT attached too)

In this case the subjects involved are Biology, Technology and English.
